What makes Amatller so special?
With a heritage of over 200 years, to taste Amatller chocolate is to experience a direct link to the evolution of Barcelona as a city.
Amatller, founded in 1797, are one of the most famous and celebrated chocolate producers in all of Spain. In 1797, Gabriel Amatller established his chocolate workshop in the heart of old Barcelona, not far from the towers of Santa Maria del Mar. His artisan chocolates soon became popular amongst the wealthy families at the nearby Argenteria Street and the Born and Ribera quarters.
In 1878, his grandson, Antoni Amatller i Costa made an inspiring trip around Europe and visited the most important chocolate factories of the time. Upon his return to the thriving industrial district of St. Marti de Provencals, Barcelona, he designed and built a new factory, equipped with the most modern machinery of the time, shipped from Germany and France.
After surviving both world wars and only going from strength to strength, the last member of the Amatller family, Teresa Amatller passed away in 1960 without a child and so the company was acquired by the Coll family, owners of Simon Coll Chocolate, a bean-to-bar family owned company founded in 1840.
In the following years the Coll family have reconnected Amatller back with its artisan chocolate roots and to this day the company have been producing chocolate with outstanding heritage. To taste Amatller chocolate is to experience a direct link to the evolution of Barcelona as a city.
Ingredients: Cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, fat reduced cocoa powder, salt (0.7%) emulsifier (SOYA lecithin), flavouring (vanilla). Cocoa solids 70% minimum. Vegan.
